Define the Scope of your OH&S Management System

You must define the scope of your OH&S Management System, that is what parts of the organization are included in the system.

Some organizations with multiple functions (service and production) may choose to only include certain parts of the organization within the scope of the OH&S, with a plan to add other areas later on.

The OH&S scope should include:

  • Physical Locations
    • example: Maybe only manufacturing but not sales locations
  • Products and/or services controlled by the organization
    • example: Manufacturing but not installation
  • Activities and processes within the OH&S
    • example: Accounting / Administration may be left out

This will also assist your Registrar estimate the length of your audit, and is particularly useful for those organizations with multiple Management Systems, such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and AS9100, etc.
